The choreographic workshops are inspired by the maracatu, a dance-procession of Afro-Brazilian tradition, typical of Recife and Olinda in Pernambuco and the states of Paraiba and Alagoas, Brazil. The origin of the maracatu is associated with the ancient coronation festivities of the black kings mentioned as early as 1711.
In this hour exciting experience, you will learn the basics of the dance, the moves and the music. I will tell you about my personal experience growing up in Brazil, and professional experience becoming a dancer and choreograph.
